Jasmine Crisp (She/Her) is a painter from Adelaide, South Australia. Her highly detailed and narrative-driven genre paintings combine personal histories with the extraordinary, forming scenes of the imagined familiar. Figures, spaces and belongings from her own intimate and personal lived experiences act as symbology that reference past traditions in painting repurposed and embodied by the domestic and ‘current’. Crisps nostalgic, and sometimes sarcastic versions of the maximal present offer a fantasised landscape that comments on a socially scrutinised ‘young’, female and Australian human experience.
Crisps painting practice in both her studio work and public large scale murals utilise purely personal and original influences/imagery with traditional painting techniques to create her characteristic compositions using only brush and hand mixed colours.
Crisp completed a Bachelor Of Visuals Arts (honours) at Adelaide Central School in 2017 and has since been granted artist in residence programs across Australia, Iceland, Finland and Mexico and exhibited works interstate and internationally including three solo exhibitions across Adelaide and Melbourne. She has been awarded over four first prizes including the CCH Art Prize and Prospect Portrait Prize as well as a featured finalist in the Ravenswood, Kennedy Art Prize, Lennox st Prize and more.
Since initiating her public art practice in 2020, Crisp has produced large scale murals across the world, including notable works in France (Street Art Boulogne Sur Mur), Italy (Without Frontiers Lunetta), Vienna (Muralia), London (Blank Walls), Portsmouth UK (LOOKUP festival) and in Australia at the Darwin Street Art Festival, Wonderwalls Festival (Port Adelaide), Brisbane Street Art Festival, Wall to Wall (Tumby Bay), Banna Lane Festival (NSW), Benalla Street Art Fetsival (VIC), Throughfare Launceston (Tas), Frankston Street Art Festival and Geelong Street art Commission (VIC) amongst numerous other commissions nationwide.
